This very playground held so many memories. She hated to look around. She could remember crying behind every bush, hiding, and hoping the other kids didn’t notice her. She could remember being teased with every step she took out in the open. The memory of their laughter and snide remarks made her cheeks burn and tears well in her blue eyes.
“You’re not here with them,” Tara whispered, suddenly turning to face her. She cupped her face in her gentle hands. “You’re here with me, and we’re going to do this.”
“It-It’s not like I’ve never swung before,” Willow whispered. She and Xander had, on rare occasion, gotten the playground to themselves and taken full advantage of it. She’d once started thinking she was in love with him when he pushed her and spent time with her, cherishing her and making her feel like she was the most important woman in the world. But to Tara, Willow knew she was the most important woman in the world. There was no doubt here, only love.
“Never with me,” Tara said simply and kissed her lips. “Come on.” Her hands dropped. She took Willow’s right hand in hers and led the way to the swingset. She had never swung. She’d never been pushed in a swing. But she wasn’t going to say that. They weren’t here for her; they were here for her sweet Willow tree.
“Sit,” she ordered as they came to the first swing. Willow sat. Tara walked around behind her, grabbed the chains in her hands, and slowly began to push and pull the swing forward and backward. The air seemed to pick up as she pushed her, but Tara took her time, swaying Willow gently for a while before beginning to, still while keeping her touch gentle, push her back.
She pushed her higher and higher. Willow could see above the surrounding buildings; soon, it felt like she was almost flying. Finally she understood why people said swinging made them feel as though they could touch the sky. Yet when Tara began to slow, Willow could think only of reaching out again to her girlfriend.
She waited until Tara had stopped entirely and stepped around her to wrap her arms around her. She brought her lover closer and kissed her full and sweetly on the mouth. Once again, she instantly felt as though she could touch the sky, but she wasn’t limited to the sky, to the moon or sun, or even to every star in the sky. There were no limitations. As long as Tara loved her, anything and everything was possible.
Tara stepped closer. They wrapped their arms more tightly around each other. Tara moaned softly, and Willow slipped her tongue inside of her. She was flying now though her body was still; yes, indeed, anything was possible as long as Tara loved her. “Your turn,” she whispered after a while, lifting her head.
Tara quietly shook her head. “I’m right where I want to be.”
