Ordinary Heroes: Valet Services Nightwing/Lifeline PG 500 Words
Title: Valet Services
Author:
amejisuto
Pairing: Nightwing/Lifeline aka Dick Grayson/Xander Harris.
Rating: PG13
Concrit: by email please
Disclaimer:Not mine, never will be. No harm, no foul, no money made.
Warnings/Squicks: Ame's insane brain. Just so you know.
Summary: After Graduation, Xander left Sunnydale and ended up with a certain someone in Gotham. In this bit Xander takes care of the Cave and monitor duties when Alfred isn't in.
Notes: This...is weird I admit. There's a long story behind the story, and a long story that will eventually come out of my head once I get to a point where I can post it. And if I can learn to do a graph on line because if you think soap operas are complicated, try explaining the romances of the Justice League. And then try to change half of them to slash? Wild.
Beta(s): The beautiful
kitty_poker1. Isn't she great for putting up with my oddness?
Valet Services.
Xander hummed to himself as he replaced the weapons in one of Bruce's spare belts. Bruce had been invited to some society dinner and, since it was slow, Alfred was driving him, leaving Xander to take care of a few things in the Cave. If he knew his friend, Bruce would slip out early in order to avoid the boredom and either go on patrol or call up Wally for some quality time.
He stashed the last gas pellet in its compartment and went to check the GPU. Whatever function Bruce had gone to, Barbara was invited as well and he was on monitor duty. No one had hit any panic alarms, though, and from their positions it was obvious that Tim and Dick were finishing one of their “Train Fu” sessions.
Things were so much different in Gotham than in Sunnydale. For one, he was appreciated and no one looked down on him for being ordinary. He wasn't treated like fine china, either. In fact, when he'd first joined up with Batman one of the first things Bruce had done was teach him meditation techniques to help him access all of the memories of the soldier left over in his brain. While he still wasn't on Bruce’s, Dick's or even Tim's combat level, it was enough for his supporting role.
Oh, he missed Buffy and Willow, but Xander couldn't help but feel like he was following his calling in life. Being the hero's backup. The guy behind the men in the masks. Besides, it was kind of fun going on patrol for vamps with a boyfriend who knew more martial arts than even Giles had ever heard of.
He could do worse than follow in Alfred's shoes. Xander considered it an honor.
“Nightwing to Lifeline...you there?”
Xander rolled his eyes and answered the com. “No, I went out for pizza. Where else would I be? And I hate it when you call me that.”
“Blame Flash. Well, and yourself since you didn't choose your own codename. You snooze, you loose, lover.”
“I'd like to remind you that I'm the one who's going to be helping you out of your Nomex/Kevlar ensemble and I will torture you with not undoing the bottoms until you beg.”
“It's a good name. After all, you do paramedic duties both in Gotham and for the League.”
“It's the name of a G. I. Joe character!!”
Dick just laughed, the dick. “Are you headed back to the Cave now that you and Robin have done your brotherly bonding on the top of a high-speed train?”
“Yeah, there isn't much going on tonight. Well, I'm sure there's something going on, but not even Bruce can figure it out. Might as well enjoy the downtime. See you in a few; Nightwing out.”
“Lifeline out.” Xander quickly finished what few duties he had left in the Batcave. With any luck they could cross making love in the Cave off their list of things to do.
