"Old Challenges Revisited"

Hello. This is my first time posting here. I'm not entirely sure the fic makes sense.

Challenge: #19 Oops
Fandom: "Friends"
Paring: I won't spoil it, but it's probably pretty obvious.
Rating: PG-13

It’s strange.

When you've been married a long time, things become routine. Sex becomes routine.

So when he flies across the country to visit an old friend whose carrer has finally begun to flourish (though he can’t say he thought it ever would), it’s been going on three (or is it four?) years since he’s gone more than thirty-six hours without sex.

He spends more than a week in LA and then misses his flight home (though that old friend is pretty pleased). He stays another two days, waiting for the next one with a free seat in row twelve.

When he gets home, it’s not really a big surprise that his wife kisses him passionately the minute he steps through the door, though he’d have liked it if she’d let him put his suitcase down.

They have a quiet, romantic evening. “Next time, I’m coming with you,” she says. “It was lonely all by myself.”

The sex is normal, same as always, but this time (perhaps because he’s been away so long) she feels it too.

“How about you and I do something special?” she suggests coyly. He thinks she is a bit too old to try to act coy like that.

He makes a joke, and she slides down to a lower part of the bed.

He closes his eyes and lets his mind drift. The thinks of California, where it is warm right now. He thinks of the movie sets and the ice cream stands and a week better than many others he’s had lately.

He lets a small moan of pleasure escape his lips. “Joey,” he murmurs.

“What?”

Chandler’s eyes fly open and he sees Monica, the same person he’s been in bed with for the past eight years.

“Um, hey,” he says and smiles weakly.
