Angelus traveled home at an increasingly rapid pace. He was infuriated that something like this could happen. His boy, his own, had stood up to him and made him look like an idiot.

It'd been such a simple plan; walk into the hospital under the pretense of being the thoughtful boyfriend, complete with white roses, right into the weakened girl's room, and be rid of the meddling Slayer once and for all.

It would have been perfect…if Xander hadn't decided at that moment to grow some balls.

At first, Angelus had thought it was cute, the way his boy was putting on a show, standing up to the big bad vampire. But then he realized that there was no one to put a show on for, no one but himself.

Xander had stood up to Angelus himself, and damn it if the boy didn't win.

As the dark vampire strode toward his home, he had visions of blood and screams, of torn flesh and spilled entrails, all of them belonging to one beautiful, brown eyed boy.

Those dark, soulful eyes flashed in the vampire's mind and he recalled each emotion they conveyed so well; defiance, fear, pain, lust. Angelus smiled into the night. He hadn't broken his boy after all. Oh, Xander wanted him, feared him, it even hurt him to stand up to Angelus, but he was not broken.

All these weeks, all this time, the boy had been under his hands, under his body, yet somehow his mind remained his own. Xander came to him willingly every night and still he kept a part of himself intact. Angelus hardened at the thought. Finally, someone truly worthy of his gift.

Angelus traveled quicker now, racing to get home. He had some preparations to make before he saw Xander again.
