With two gaping holes in his body, he had to have a little hope. He hoped that Angel hadn’t ordered this. He hoped that it was just the lime green lackey with terrible fashion sense that was finally lashing out. He hoped that Angel had really forgiven him, and allowed him to join the team. That’s when he realized it. He, Lindsey McDonald, was in love with Angel. He’d admit to lusting after the vampire, sure, but now . . . you don’t ask someone you lust after for forgiveness.
Lindsey couldn’t help but laugh. What a time to go.

Research
It was just research, he told himself. Not for anything in particular, just something to pass the time. He’d read up on some ancient burial grounds, and old religious sects, then that would get boring and he’d have the codex fetch the old Watcher's Journals. He told himself that he wanted to relive the old days, back when he was clearly on the side of good.
It was Friday that he let himself finally realize what he was doing. Reading up on the old malicious antics of Angelus was one thing. Getting aroused by them was an entirely different situation.

Realization
“Guess what I did today.” Spike sauntered into the office and slid into his customary chair.
Angel sighed. “Crashed the Viper?”
“No, that was Tuesday, remember?”
Angel rolled his eyes. “So what did you do?”
“I came to the realization —”
“Ooh. Big word.”
“— to the realization that you are desperately in love with me.” Spike smirked smugly. Angel tried to hide his laughter.
“In love with you?” He forced a frown. “Keep dreaming, idiot.”
He barely had time to feel the lips against his before they were gone. He noticed he’d leaned forward.
“Desperately.” Spike smiled and left.
