Disclaimer: The characters aren’t mine, and I make no money from this
Angel wishes there was some other way; he doesn’t want to have to look at Xander’s face. Lust and mistrust, both are writ large - and once more Angel bites back the curse that screams behind his lips.
In his mind he damns Spike time and again for leaving him in this impossible situation.
Neither of them wants this.
And if he’d had a choice other than causing another death?
Angel couldn’t see Xander weaken – he couldn’t lose that final tie with sunshine and shade. Now it’s too late, too many unalterable steps taken.
Angel wonders how survival has become sex…
…how this man who has always hated him can shiver and spend, his knees weakening, as Angel’s fangs pierce the scar Xander wears sadly, yet proudly.
Too quickly, Xander gasps, a signal to withdraw that Angel recognises now. He pulls away before grief – a deep, deep sorrow - overwhelms that heady post-orgasm flavour. Xander’s blade digs in deeper and clatters to the floor, noisily in this stifling silence. Fingers grip tight around Angel’s wrists, a hungry mouth seeking what has just been taken.
Then he's gone.
There’s too much to be said for mere words to be enough between them.
