Questions
Jacko, would you mind turning off that computer machine so I can have your undivided attention while I ask you a few questions?
So, what exactly were your feelings about me the day we met? Would I be right in thinking that you didn’t want to have anything to do with me? Did you feel you were somehow superior to me? Was that it, College Boy?
But how could you possibly think that your fancy college education would make you any better than me? Hadn’t you ever considered that experience is really the best teacher? And I don’t need to remind you again that I have way more experience than you, do I?
There’s nothing like the thrill of following a hunch; is there? And if Ruiz were to ever ask you, you’d have to admit that I do most of the real work in this partnership; right? You’re a good cop, of course, but can you see how, because of my experience, I’ve managed to make you an even better cop these last few months?
So, can I assume you’re feeling better about working with me now? And about being with me all day?
But do you have any idea what I’ve had to go through these past few months?
What am I getting at, you ask?
Jacko, if you’re really so smart, then how come you haven’t been able to figure out how I really feel about you?
You wanna know why I always ask you to go out for barbeque? Why I ask you to go out drinking with me all the time? Why we’ve had all those heart-to-heart talks? Why I always stall going home at night?
And hey – did you know that oysters are an aphrodisiac?
Anyway, do you know how much I like being your partner?
Have you ever thought about us being more than just daytime partners?
Do you catch my drift, Jacko?
Would it surprise you to know that I’ve never felt this way about a guy in my entire life? Weird, huh?
Can you imagine the Hell I’ve been going through to get the balls enough to tell you this?
And if you, by some chance, were to ask me if I love you, do you know what I’d say?
Is the Pope Catholic?
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Is Hodges a dumbass?
So, do I need to say it any plainer than that?
I don’t?
And do you feel the same way?
Really?
You wouldn’t be shitting me, would you?
Jacko, if you’ve been feeling that way about me for so long, then why the Hell didn’t you say so earlier, so I wouldn’t need to be asking all these questions to find out?
And how about you get your ass up out of that chair right now so we can go to my trailer, where I can show you privately just how much I love you?
Do you catch my drift?
