Um, this is silly, short and has a tenuous grip, at best, with reality. Ah well.
“You stupid git!”
“It was an accident, I didn’t mean it-”
The room winced in unison and Wesley, already so furious Spike could practically see the steam coming out his ears, instantly hit the current object of his wrath with the nearest heavy implement that came to hand. Angel half-ducked the blow from the pineapple with a pathetic ‘Wes!’
“Shouldn’t we, you know, stop them?” Connor asked, eying the remaining desserts with concern lest they suffered the same fate as the unfortunate fruit bowl.
“What, and stop the fun of watching Angel dig himself a second grave?” Spike grinned. “No chance.”
“Okay, that came out wrong. Of course I meant it, I just-”
“Couldn’t you’ve at least waited until afterwards?” Wesley said, exasperated. “This is Connor’s first dinner with us, we spent hours making everything perfect. Only for you to go and jinx it.”
“Now hang on,” Angel interrupted firmly. “‘Jinxed’ is going a little far, don’t you think?”
“Name one instance where actual or intended utterance of those words out loud has not heralded another apocalyptic battle.”
Silence. Then: “This evening is really that important to you?”
“Of course it is. I love you too, you idiotic gelled twit.”
