Title: One of These Days
Author: Kat Lee
Fandom: RPS
Character/Pairing: Johnny Depp/Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp + Amber Heard friendship
Rating: PG/K+
Challenge: #353: Past Prompts Revisited and #1: Fantasies
Warning(s): None
Word Count: 400
Summary:
Disclaimer: Johnny, Orlando, and Amber all belong to themselves, although the press, sadly, would have it otherwise.
He looks out at his island home as his mind mulls over all the fantasies he'd once thought he was finally going to get to live here. There was so much he wanted to do on this land besides just hiding from the press. He loves, but he is never loved in return. He'd thought it would be different here. He'd thought it would be different with him, but as always before, he was wrong.
The sun is sinking, and Depp has trouble not thinking it's sinking on his love life. With every year he grows older, it seems ever more improbable that any one is going to love him back as strongly and passionately as he does them. There's been so many who have broken his heart, but the latest one is the worst.
He raises his bottle to the setting sun and then drinks deeply again. A hand closes around the neck of his bottle, and it's taken from him. He lets it go only because he knows it will be replaced with another. His bride places a new bottle in his hand before sitting beside him on the sand.
She doesn't ask him if he's thinking about him. She knows Orlando is always on his mind, although she wishes she could replace the man with another more fitting, one who would love her husband back. Johnny gazes at her for a moment over the mouth of his wine bottle. He's still a little surprised he's wearing her ring and has allowed her to have his name, but then it's good to have a friend, especially when your romantic love is never returned.
"He's a fool, you know," Amber tosses the words into the wind, then takes a drink of her own bottle. They have so much in common, one of the many reasons why they get along so well.
He smirks. "You've said that before."
"Yeah," she says, taking his hand, "and I mean it every time." She doesn't know who yet, and she doubts it will ever be Orlando, but she'll be damned if she won't find a worthy man to love her husband in turn. She squeezes his hand, then leans back on the sand, watching him and the darkness falling. She can't do it herself, but she's going to make Johnny Depp happy and give him his true island paradise one of these days.
