Cupid’s feathers ripple as He gazes down upon the mortals. Yet again His favorite couple is trying to save each other and giving everything each possesses to save the other. They’ve never been condemned to Hell simultaneously; if they had, their story might well have ended there. As long as they were together, they wouldn’t be so driven to return to the living.
As it is, their story keeps going. They keep loving; they keep fighting for each other. “Remind you of any one?”
“If you’re going to say Xena and Gabrielle,” Aphrodite giggles before admitting, “yes, I suppose I can see the similarities. Neither’s given up their place in Heaven to go to Hell, -- “
“But they would,” Cupid interjects, “if that’s what it took to be together.”
She nods and pats His muscular, bare shoulder just beside His quiver full of arrows. “Congratulations, son. You did it: You finally set up a pair to match my favorites!”
He beams. “I did, didn’t I?”
“Yeah.” Aphrodite giggles again. “It only took you a couple millennia.” She wriggles Her nose, smiles at Him, and disappears before He can protest. He sighs as Her voice drifts back to Him, “I still win!”
