Wes drabble -200 words

TITLE: Second Sight
AUTHOR: Eloise
RATING: PG13
SPOILERS: Early season 3-ish
NOTES: Wesley sings at Caritas. Lines quoted from 'Nature Boy' by Eden Ahbez.

Second Sight

He doesn’t like it when Wesley sings. Oh, he listens, that’s his job, what puts seabreezes on the table, but he doesn’t like it.

Not that he’s got a bad voice. Kind of soft and fuzzy, quite melodic, although sadly untrained. Could have been a choir boy, that one. A little Gabriel.

No, it’s not the singer. Or the song, even. Because this time, Wesley let him pick the song.

“A little shy and sad of eye, and very wise was he…”

But singing isn’t in the British boy’s nature. He sings rarely, and when he does, it’s hard to hear the song because his heart is out there, for everyone to see. Well, not everyone, clearly. But he sees enough.

Enough to know that life, or what’s left of it, isn’t going to be treating Wesley very kindly. He’s going to be kicked, and left out in the cold, and any chance of happiness he might have had with anyone is going to be cruelly snatched from him.

Wesley finishes the song, comes down from the stage and looks at him expectantly.

“Like the song says, sweetie.” Lorne lies without shame. “Just love, and be loved in return.”

Oh... **sniffle**

I feel so terribly sad for both Wes and Lorne in this. Because what can Lorne do when he reads something like that.

Enough to know that life, or what’s left of it...

Ouch. And poor Wes too. Just love, and so he does, with all his heart, every time. *sniff*

Gah! That song kills me every time I hear it. (I have 3 versions in MP3 format.) Wonderful choice for Wes to sing. Sad also, that Lorne has had to develop the ability to lie to smoothly.

Ah...poor Lorne. You really would kinda have to lie about that wouldn't you. Very sweet.

*sobs* Poor Wes. Poor Lorne. Joss, why, oh, why did you have to hurt these boys so bad, we are left to forever pick up the pieces! Lovely job! *sniff*

God, that is the truth, he wears it as a beautiful mantle. I almost feel guilty enjoying how breathlessly epic he is in his pain. Your angst is so terribly brilliant I actually look forward to reading it, even though I know that heartache and tears will accompany it. You have me quite smitten.

You've captured the feeling so well.. my heart breaks for both of them

*sniffles* So sad, and so true... he really does put his whole heart into everything. And to have come to such an end... but no, I live in my Bubble Of Denial about that.
