He hadn’t even realised he was so aware of it. By rights, he shouldn’t have been. With all the noise in the precinct, cops talking, perps shouting, phones ringing, something that quiet shouldn’t have even registered at all.
But it did, and amongst all that noise, when it was absent, he was aware of it. A vague shiver of unease that sat, quiet and brooding, beneath everything. That sat, waited and worried, wanting. He hadn’t put it together, until there was once again the clattering sound of computer keys. The comforting reassurance that Kermit was back, not gone for good.
