Below the cut is a series of six drabbles for this week's theme of 'switch'

I'm going to have to rate these probably an 'R' for violence and implied violent content.

Each drabble builds on the previous one.

Feedback is always a groovy thing.

confront your demons

Lindsey/Wes

I wrapped my arms around his body, trying to stop the shaking. He had yet another nightmare. At least he had finally started to trust me enough to actually tell me what some of them were about. I’d read his file before, knew what his father had done.

Wes insisted it was okay because he was ‘used to it’. No one should have to be used to it. Remembering the way the switch, or whatever was handy tore into flesh, being haunted by nightmares that never ended, was not okay. The man needed to pay, needed to pay in blood.

---

Wes still flinched when my fingers got too close to the bigger scars. That’s when I knew I needed to do something. It took me almost a month to convince him to take a trip to the land of his birth. He had no idea what I was planning, and I didn’t want him to know. It would be a surprise. Wes needed to confront his demon before it slowly drove him crazy. The man still had so much power over him, even across the wide ocean.

I still had contacts with demons. Arrangements were made, the switch in place.

----

This was all going to cost a lot. Not just money, demons always wanted more. I was willing to make sacrifices for him. If it came to it, I might even die for Wes, but I wasn’t even sure if he’d do the same thing for me. Whatever the cost, I’d pay. This was important.

We arrived at the hotel, heading to our room. On the door was a note that said Just flip the switch. I smiled, helping Wes unpack. Told him there was something I had to show him tonight, a special arrangement, just for him.

----

Wes kept giving me odd looks the entire cab ride over to the Dungeon. It was supposed to be a night club, but the place was really a cover for a demon lair. Once you got inside, simply flip the switch and you were suddenly somewhere else.

I held onto his hand as the switch fell. There was a flash and we found ourselves in a room. The demons were gone; they knew to make themselves scarce now that I was here.

“Father?” Wes moved across the room to get a look at the man who was bound and gagged.

----

I don’t think I had ever felt such absolute hatred before. It wasn’t directed at me, but at his own son. “Lindsey, what’s going on?”

Turning, I looked at the wall. They’d done like I asked. I grabbed the switch from where it hung, smacking it against my palm once. “He deserves it, Wes. What he did to you. What he’s still doing to you. He’s been bad and needs to be punished.”

Wes looked at me for a moment, then down at the figure on the floor. “What do you think, Father? Do you need to learn a lesson?”

----

When the screaming had finally stopped, the sobbing had taken over. Wes had lost the ability to make words by that point, but the sounds tore at my heart and soul. Years of punishment for simply acting like a child was supposed to, for pronouncing words wrong, for being a failure in his father’s eyes.

After he dropped to the ground, I gently removed the switch from his fingers. “It’s okay now, Wes. He won’t hurt you ever again.” I wrapped my arms around him, just like I did when I needed to chase the nightmares away. “It’ll be okay.”

This was incredible. The wonderful myriad use of the word switch in each part, the building tension, and Roger Angst. Loved this so very much.

Kudos!

Oh, Roger did indeed get what he deserved. Very nicely done, too. A wonderful first response to the challenge! :o)
