His footsteps shatter the stillness in the clearing, skipping over the remains of those who fell to sword, not spell. I don’t look up, not even when he stops and takes my sword from numb fingers.
His hand slides down the blade, transferring blood from grey steel to grey gloves, and then rises, stroking fingers over my face, decorating my skin with sticky marks. His fingers catch my chin, lifting my gaze to meet laughing eyes and knowing smirk, as his thumb stains my lips red.
He leans forward, chuckle breezing over my ear, “And you still claim you’re human?”
