FANDOM: 'Kingdom of Heaven'
PAIRING: Balian/Nasir (Orlando Bloom and Alexander Siddig)
RATING: PG
DISCLAIMER: I don't own 'em. They belong to 20th Century Fox, to Ridley Scott and the respective actors of the movie, and to the ages. This is a work of a fan, done for no remuneration save the satisfaction of the work.
NOTES: Inspired by a line from Percy Bysshe Shelley's 'The Revolt of Islam':
"So there strange natures made a brotherhood of ill."

Two men rode by morning light, before the desert's mid-day breath exhaled over the rolling sand; they huddled together during the chilly night under a blanket of a thousand stars.

"Stay close," said the one called Nasir. "Let me ignite your flesh against the cold."

Balian of Ibelin had lost faith. He had lived death and done murder, and sin was a subject for priests to ponder. But if a kingdom of heaven could exist somewhere, it might be in the arms of this man of Islam.

Skin the color of freshly turned earth, teeth glowing through the inky nocturnal veil and eyes reflecting starlight, Nasir was a magician, conjuring passion long dormant.

"Conserve your body's precious fluid," Nasir warned fruitlessly as Balian's sweat and seed sprinkled the sand.

Lips burning and arms aching, Balian prayed not for forgiveness but for the strength to give more. Safe in the shelter of Nasir's embrace, Balian might have been content to wander the desert forever, nomadic brothers exploring the strange natures of love. But the walls of Jerusalem loomed ahead, and Balian knew his knight's oath must intervene.

Once damned and now redeemed by a brave man's touch, Balian's spirit slowly healed.
