For the 'Seriously' challenge. Part of my James/Nick backstage affair'verse. Previous bits are hiding out here.
Title: Crossing Over
Pairing: James/Nick
Rating: Mature
Warnings: RPS
Nick lay boneless on the too small bed, sweaty and sticky and smiling too widely. James had pounded him into the scratchy blanket until Nick had cried out loudly, soaking the rough fabric with his seed.
He knew by the way the older man was acting that something was up. James was being evasive and grumpy and there were no snuggles. Nick was big on the snuggles and James knew that but he just couldn't, not just yet.
They had both been on edge since Sarah's announcement, everyone on set had. It was normal, or so he was told. He knew the chain smoking would alert Nick that something was wrong, not to mention the fact that he was losing weight again. He only hoped the boy wouldn't guess the cause of that.
"Jesus fucking Christ, James!" Nick finally blurted, summoning enough strength to fuel the outburst. "Will you tell me what the fuck is going on in that head of yours? You're killing me here."
James sighed, hearing the despair and pain in the boy's voice. He didn't want to tell him the news. Nicky was sweet and would be happy for him even though he knew the boy's heart would be breaking.
"Talked with Joss today," he whispered quietly, knowing Nicky would have to strain to hear him. "I'm going over to Angel next season."
"Oh."
That was all he got. 'Oh.' Stepping closer, the blond slowly sank down onto the bed, the small mattress depressing under his slight weight. He began to thread his fingers through the short, dark hair that was still slick with sweat, slowly easing the tension away from the boy.
"You ok?"
"Yeah," Nicky answered. If James didn't know better, he almost would have believed him. "You deserve it. Spike deserves it. He's a great character and everybody loves him. You'll have fun, I'm sure."
That's when James knew what the problem really was.
"Nicky," he whispered quietly, as he lifted the boy's chin so he could stare into the glistening hazel eyes. "I'm not going to fuck around with Dave while I'm there. We're past it." He ran his thumb over the kiss swollen lips, admiring the slight bruising he had caused. "Now, you and me. We're still good, yeah?"
Nicky stared into the azure eyes, searching for an answer, praying for the truth.
"Seriously?" he asked quietly.
"Seriously."
They both smiled.
