Happy birthday,
slashthedrabble!!!
I saw your face when I was taken down. You seemed so pleased. You're not so happy now.
It's your turn to be afraid.

Title: Anniversary
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Giles/Ethan – past
A/N: Takes place on January 25, 2010 – 10 years after A New Man
Warnings: Implied torture
Word Count: 500
Giles awoke to the knowledge that he was quite immobilized. His eyes flew open in a panic, but he only saw fluorescent lights. He tried to call out but found his mouth sealed shut with heavy tape. The stretch of leather straps was the only response when he tried to raise his arm. Bound then, not paralyzed. Before he could decide if he was relieved, a voice scratched through the air behind him.
"You're awake! Wonderful. I wouldn't want you to sleep through the party."
A chill gripped the back of Giles' neck. He knew that voice. It was older, rather… off… but unmistakable. The question was how. He feared the answer to why.
His eyes, blinded though they were by the light, tracked frantically back and forth, searching for something – anything – to offer some small piece of hope.
"Really, Ripper. You mustn't panic, I'm right here."
A shape moved into Giles' line of sight, eventually coalescing into something far less familiar than he'd expected. Giles blinked to clear his vision. The spectacle before him, however, was not the result of overly contracted pupils.
His brain shouted frantic denials as his eyes catalogued the damage done to his one-time lover and love. He'd not seen Ethan in a decade, but years don't… do that to a man. A tear tracked down Giles' face.
"Do I look so bad, Rupert? I'll admit I don't quite fill out my clothing the way I used to, but there's still some rakish charm to me, don't you agree?"
Always trim, Ethan was nothing more than skin and bones. And his face… thin, nearly transparent skin stretched over bones, making an exaggerated caricature of those once noble features. Scars traced— Giles shuddered. Who would do that to a human being? What sent a silent sob through Giles' body, though, were Ethan's eyes. Looking into those eyes that had always sparked with wit and mischief and wicked glee, it was painfully clear that Ethan was quite mad.
"Now, Rupert, do calm down. This is a momentous occasion. Ten years ago this evening, I was taken into the tender mercies of the Initiative." He giggled, sending another round of shivers through Giles. "All at your word, my dear. Certainly cause for celebration, don't you think?"
Ethan moved to the side, still in Giles' view, to rearrange some items on a tray. "I remained with them until just this past month. It was enlightening, actually. It seemed that they were new to the world of magic and wanted to know where I stored mine." Another laugh. "They were quite persistent. I tried to tell them that I wasn't inherently magical, but, bless their hearts, they just kept digging."
Ethan turned to Giles once more. The items in his hands mercifully unfamiliar. Giles feared, however, that he would grow quite knowledgeable soon enough.
"But don't fear. I won't bore you with the gory step-by-step. I rather thought I could show you instead. Let's start with the hands, shall we?"

What a good, creepy ficlet! You describe Ethan so well here that I can really imagine what he looks like. And the thought of what those Iniative jerks did to him is enough to make you shudder. Great job!
Not Giles's pretty hands! *cries*

I know I should feel sorry for Giles... and I do...really (although I am also blaming him a fair bit!)but I can't help but think of what poor Ethan has been through!

I actually thought of that, but he wasn't really the dark one in this piece. I still might give it a go. :-)

What a wonder you have created! I was seriously on the edge of my seat - my mind actually clenched in the anticipation of pain!
Poor Ethan - but even more so...
Poor Giles...
*Shudders...*

I just now discovered this LJ of yours. I really enjoy it, I love you're stories!
My question is: Will you continue this story (anniversary)or will you leave it with an open ending??
I really hope you'll go on with this one.
