Summary: “It’s the truth!” Cadman snarled. “I-I’m paralyzed! W-what kind of future have I got?!”
A/N: For Jules [livejournal.com profile] pegasusuroborus. Because we all know that both Weir and Cadman are gay.

Scene: Hospital bay

“You really ought to eat something, build up your strength.”

“Why didn’t you let me die?”

Weir took Laura’s hand in her own. “You shouldn’t have saved me. You should’ve ordered, Carson to stop…not continue. What good, am I? What good, am I to anyone?”

“Don’t-”

“It’s the truth!” Cadman snarled. “I-I’m paralyzed! W-what kind of future have I got?!”

Weir opened her mouth to reply.

“None! I haven’t got one! I-I c-can’t walk!” Her face crumbled as her words hit her. “I can’t walk!” she sobbed, “The colonel should’ve left me behind….”

Elizabeth gingerly ran her fingers, over the bruised lieutenant face. “Laura.”

Cadman jerked her hand back, silently wincing at the pain. “Don’t. Don’t give me your fucking pity! I don’t need it. And I don’t want it! H-how the hell, am I going to explain this to my family?”

Elizabeth closed her eyes, struggling to maintain her emotions.

“In five weeks time…I-I’m supposed to be my sister’s bridesmaid. What the hell am I supposed to do, now?!”

“I’m sorry.”

“Do us both a favor and ask the ‘Angel of Mercy’ to pay me a visit…I’d do it myself, but hey, I can’t walk!”

Weir gazed at her searchingly. “I can’t imagine, what you’re going through, b-”

“Damn right you can’t!”

“But, self-pity isn’t the answer.” Elizabeth replied, softly.

Cadman’s eyes widened in disbelief. “S-self-pity? Do you think that’s what it’ll about? I-I can’t walk and you’re here preaching to me, about self-pity?! Firstly, I don’t do the whole self-pity. And I don’t need you or anyone else telling me otherwise! For me, my life is over…a-and if you see that as self-pity, then I’m sorry. I truly am…but….” She trailed off.

Weir reached for her hand, only for Laura to jerk back. “I hate you!” she snarled.

Elizabeth closed her eyes, her stomach churned at Laura’s words. “You don-”

“I hate you! You had to play the fucking heroine! Had to order Colonel Sheppard’s and Major Lorne’s teams to remain on the planet, until they found me. Well, congratulations! You’ve found me.” Cadman snapped, closing her eyes.

“Believe it or not, Laura: but there are those of us, who care for you.”

Cadman snorted, “There’s a difference between friends and colleagues, Doctor Weir. Or hadn’t you noticed?!”

Elizabeth stood up, tears forming in her eyes. “They all care for you, and you know that. You also, know that they’re much more than your colleagues that they’re you’re friends.”

“If they were my friends as you claim, then they would’ve left me to die!”

“Friends, don’t do that.”

“What the hell would you know?” she snidely replied. “You wanted to look big in front of everyone, in front of Sheppard!”

“That’s why, you think I did it? For John?”

“Well, you sure as hell didn’t do it for me!”

Elizabeth headed toward the exit, pausing half-way through the door. “That’s where you’d be wrong.”

Title: Being There
Challenge: 042-Comfort
Word count: 230
Summary: Weir wrapped her arms around the younger woman’s bare back. “I could’ve lost you.”
A/N: Again written for for Jules [livejournal.com profile] pegasusuroborus

Weir wrapped her arms around the younger woman’s bare back. “I could’ve lost you.”

Cadman smiled, faintly. “I know.”

“Then, why you’d do it? Why ignore John’s command?”

She shrugged, gazing at the older woman. “I-I couldn’t just leave them, t-they were just kids! No, older than Michael.”

Weir’s lips pressed smoothly against her forehead. “I know that, too.”

Cadman closed her eyes, snuggling further into Weir’s neck. “It wasn’t my intent on being ambushed. Or to put lieutenant colonel or Ronon in harms way.”

Weir’s fingers brushed against her skin and hair. “I know you didn’t,” she replied, softly, “But, had anything happened-”

“I know, I know.” She interrupted.

Weir gazed at her, “You can’t save everyone. You can try, sure, but then you might make things worse.”

“They were children.”

Weir arched an eyebrow in response. “And if they were adults?”

Cadman looked at her, sheepishly.

Weir smiled understandingly. “You can’t save everyone and you can’t put your own life at risk…otherwise it’ll all end in tears.”

Cadman closed her eyes as Weir continued. “Promise me, you won’t do anything stupid or rash and put yourself in danger.”

Cadman didn’t reply.

“Laura?” She gently shook Cadman by the shoulders.

“Mmm?”

“Promise me.”

Cadman sighed. “Fine. I promise. There are you happy, now?”

“Delirious.”

Cadman smirked, before tracing Weir’s jaw line, gently pulling her in for a kiss.
