Previous parts.
Xander knew he was in trouble. Spike hardly said two words to him when he finally made it to the Harris house. No, "Hey, little brother," just a simple, "Let's go," and a flurry of black leather.
His unease grew when the blond vampire never once stopped along the way to the mansion for a quick kiss and grope.
He followed Spike in silence as they passed first his room and then Angelus'. They walked down a set of winding stairs until they were far beneath the mansion.
What had started out as unease had transformed into full panic when he stepped into the room where Angelus waited for him. He was greeted by blank, stone walls sparsely lit by three bare bulbs, a dark tile floor with a drain in the center and a seriously pissed off vampire watching him from a plain wooden chair in the corner.
Angelus sat watching silently, his fingers steepled and pressed to his lips. Xander stood stock still for several long moments, not knowing what to say or do. Finally, the dark vampire stood slowly before stalking over to the trembling boy.
"Xander," Angelus whispered as he leaned in close. "You've been a very bad boy."
The sable-haired boy dropped his eyes, but not his head.
"It took me a while to figure out the stunt you pulled at the hospital. But when I did, I was very angry."
The tone of the last word caused a shiver to run down the young boy's spine. The vampire was circling him, making him feel like prey.
"This was our chance. We could have been rid of that meddling Slayer once and for all. But then I figured out why you did it. I had an…epiphany of sorts."
Angelus stopped, facing Xander, forcing the shorter boy to look up into his blazing chocolate eyes.
"You think I don't really see you. You think I only see you as a pet, a plaything, a hole to fuck." He leaned in so his words caressed Xander's parted lips. "But you're wrong, Xander. I see you. I've always seen you. You're the young boy who craves attention any way he can get it. You're the white knight who stands up to me, soul or not. You're the sick fuck who gets off when I make you bleed. You're the heart of a group that doesn't even know when you hurt. I see your soul and I see your darkness and I ache to make them mine."
A kiss, just a simple brush of gentle lips and then Angelus was gone. Dark brown eyes searched conflicted hazel orbs for several long minutes before Angelus continued, "You have to choose. You can leave here now and we'll go back to being enemies or you can stay and take your punishment."
The vampire stepped back and glanced up. Xander noticed for the first time the simple trapeze-like bar with two velvet restraints.
Angelus returned to his chair to await Xander's decision.
