Meet The Parents - Torchwood - Jack/Ianto

Title: Meet The Parents
Fandom: Torchwood
Pairing: Jack/Ianto
Word count: 300
Challenge: 110 late/early
Summary: As Jack hurries to get ready, Ianto tries his best to reassure him that everything's going to be alright – unfortunately, Jack's not listening.

"We're going to be late," Jack said, glancing on the clock as he hurried around his office – Ianto just leant against the desk and watched him calmly, unaffected by their supposed lateness.

"No, we're not. We're going to be fine, sir. You should stop worrying."

Jack paused where he'd started searching for his tie, to give him a disbelieving look. "I'm not 'worrying."

"Looks like you are."

Jack scowled and carried on searching. Smiling to himself, Ianto held the missing tie out for him. Jack took it roughly from his hands, and he looked like he was bordering upon 'pissed off' by now.

"It'll be fine, Jack," Ianto said, trying to reassure him. He wouldn't have ever asked if he'd known that it would get Jack so riled up. "They'll love you."

Jack's frown flickered, his heart-warming smile reappearing before it was pushed away again. "Of course they will. That's not the point."

"There's a point?"

"Yeah." Jack gave a frustrated groan and gave up on the tie. Ianto rolled his eyes and stepped forwards to do it for him – sometimes, he wondered how on earth their Captain had survived before he came along. He focused on the blue slip of material, hands moving subconsciously. He could probably do a tie in his sleep these days. "I'm not the 'meet the parents' type."

"You'll be fine!" Ianto placed a hand on Jack's chest once that tie was positioned perfectly. "I can call and cancel if you'd prefer?"

"God, no," Jack said, rushing the words out. "Cancelling's worse than being late. I'm going to make a good impression."

"Of course you are, sir," Ianto agreed, as they both moved to exit the office – while secretly wondering what his mother was going to make of the man who had 'corrupted' her son.

Oh, delightful!

And is Ianto as confident of Jack's ability to charm as he seems?

A lot depends on what the mum and dad are like, but chances are poor Ianto is truly terrified!

[identity profile] hinsoullai.livejournal.com 2007-01-12 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Awwww! Great fic!
Love this, Ianto calming Jack down, Jack worrying about meeting his parents - who knew that Jack could worry about something so.. ordinary?! - and THE TIEEEE! *squees* Ianto doing Jack's tie is just.. awwwwwwwwwwwwwww! They seem like such a homely couple here.

Would love to see that Jack-meeting-the-parents thing, and see how Ianto's mother reacts to the guy that 'corrupted Ianto!' XDDDD

Please get bitten by a plot-bunny.. even if it does hurt and fluff drugs come and get you..

Oh god, I can just imagine Ianto's parents right now - very strict. Obsessed with cleaning and always wearing suits, even outside. *grin*

Outside?! I mean inside, sorry. XD

Oh, please, please, please! Write the 'meets the parents' part!

Someone earlier commented about the likelihood of Ianto's parents being very strict, etc. But from my experience (being someone's daughter and a mother both)I can see it is far more likely that Ianto's parents are the 'opposite' of himself.

Think about the many people who, while growing up, think their parents are 'nuts' or 'boring' and decide to be nothing like them (we'll ignore for the moment just how many of us as adults in our 30s onwards say, OMG Ive turned into my mum/dad!). So I can see Ianto's parents very much as free thinkers (rather like the parents in Meet the Parents 2) and that Ianto likes order because in his childhood he didnt have order rather more chaos in his household. Ianto is also more than likely to be either an only child OR the eldest child in the family. Super sense of responsibility, you know. :)

It also then makes more sense that Ianto would fall for someone like Jack, who in many ways, would remind him of the aspects of his parents he respects (now that as an adult he can see them as individuals, and not just his parents) and that Ianto's parents, in such a scenario, would absolutely *love* Jack for relaxing their somewhat somber son.

Food for thought? I hope so :)

Looking forward to your next story with much anticipation.
Many thanks for sharing.

Great story. But does Ianto's mom not know, or are there issues? Poor Jack, walking into that. *snort*

So cute! Poor Jack would be terribly nervous about it, wanting to make his best impression.

Ianto doing Jack's tie must be done in the show now. It is a scene that is full of cute, and when you consider the amount of squee over the coat-handing...good lord, maybe not, on the other hand.

Also, I was reading the comments, and I like the comparison to Jack's parents in Lost. I can sort of see his mother as the ultra-organized woman, maybe for her job (don't know what it would be except maybe a high-up office job), and she brought him up as such or something. And of course, she would be a conservative person as I gather from the last line.

Having said that about his mother, I really have no idea what his father would be like.

But I can just see something slipping out in the middle of dinner or whatever that's just so naturally Jack, but makes Ianto's parents gape at him a bit, and Ianto sort of blushes a bit...argh, it's half of a plot bunny.
