The Driver

 

 

Kirill overflowed with anger.  Even in his most hedonistic moments of vodka-fueled high spirits, the rage was always there.  Rage at his father, rumors, his own failures.

 

            Nikolai met this fury with calm.  His hand resting tenderly on Kirill’s neck, his forehead pressed to Kirill’s, Nikolai called him brother, soothed his rage with gentle words and caresses.   

 

When Kirill pressed a drunken kiss to his lips, Nikolai accepted it.   

 

            “What are you, a queer?”  Kirill asked.

 

            A shrug, a smirk from Nikolai.

 

            “If you say so,” he answered. 

 

He was the driver. 

 

He did what was expected of him.

I've never heard of this fandom before, but it looks like Nikolai knows exactly how to handle Kirill, drunk or sober. *g*

Thanks for commenting. Eastern Promises is a new movie directed by David Croneberg about the Russian mafia in London that stars Viggo Mortensen as Nikolai. It's currently in theaters-- I just saw it on Thursday and it's absolutely amazing.

Thanks for reading and commenting, I totally recommend Eastern Promises, it's really an complex, compelling film with lots of interesting homoerotic subtext. However a word of warning, it's also extremely dark and contains graphic violence and other disturbing imagery such as a pregnant 14 year old girl hemorrhaging and the fingers being cut off a corpse.

I finally saw the movie last night and remembered your drabble so thought I would come back and reread it.

I like it even more now!

I really enjoyed the movie. I had to turn away at some of the graphic violent scenes, though.

I liked the complexity of the characters. Especially Kirill and his father.

And Viggo Mortenson.....*swoons*

Thank you. I'm glad you got a chance to see the film, it's so good (though the scene in the bath house is probably one of the most convincing bits of violence I've ever seen on film).
