“Are you in or out?”

Remus tried to live up to his prefect badge. But once Sirius turned those fierce, determined eyes on him, it was hard to be good. Now that James was with Lily all the time, it was just Remus and Sirius, and he liked it that way.

He knew he probably shouldn’t go along with most of Sirius’s schemes. But it seemed so natural to give in to Sirius. And it was far too difficult to resist that smile, which always promised laughter and mischief. Remus couldn’t say no.

He knew he was a little in love with Sirius. In class, his mind would wander and he would find himself daydreaming about Sirius. Or worse yet, just staring, admiring his body or studying his wild beauty.

Remus imagined telling him. After one of their missions, when Sirius was flushed and passionate, Remus would be the brave one. He would pull Sirius in for a kiss. When Sirius pulled back with surprise, he would challenge, “Are you in or out?” Cool and calm, as if he wasn’t terrified of the answer.

And then…? Remus had no idea. He didn’t think he had the courage to find out.
