Pairing: Angel/Wes, in its own warped way
Disclaimer: Joss Whedon is his own fanboy.
He supposed he should have been grateful for never having remembered doing it. He should have thanked Angel for not letting him live with the guilt. If he’d never thought he done it, then Angel would never have to think that he did it. There would be nothing to forgive. They could go on, business as usual. It was what friends did.
Friends didn’t steal each other’s children and allow them to be taken.
It was easy to spin a yarn to make himself forgive his actions. Excuse, was a word that came to mind: He did it because he loved him. He loved him. Out of that love, he protected him, sent Connor away. The father will kill the son. He never wanted Angel to live with that sort of pain.
Did Angel ever think of the sort of pain having his memories taken would’ve —
It was the same, wasn’t it? Losing a child. Gaining a bad memory. And eye for an eye. Love.
Betrayal. He should have been happy having forgotten. How else could he have endured that guilt?
It was too late for them. Trust on both sides had been broken. They would never be the same.
