Lovers and Dreamers
Prompt: 070 The Future
Fandom: Buffyverse, pre-series
Rating: PG
Pairing: (implied) Angelus/William
Disclaimer: It’s been a while since I’ve said this, but I’m not Joss Whedon. (It never gets old.)
“I often wonder what it will be like, a hundred, two hundred years from now! A thousand! Just think of all the changes you’ve seen! It must be so exciting to live through the changes of the times. Frightening, too, but what are we now save the ones who bring the terror? Oh, I’ve often dreamed of it as a boy. The future, that is. But now that I will actually live so long . . .” William shook his head, grinning.
“Do you think so?” Angelus finally turned away from the carriage window to look at him passively.
William blinked. “What do you mean?”
“You’ve still got a dreamer’s head, boy. It’s constantly in the clouds. You never watch where you’re going, or who you’re running into. You’ve been lucky to last this long.”
“Oh.” William deflated back into the seat. “I suppose I was lucky to find you, then.”
“Don’t be a fool.” Angelus turned back out the window. “I found you.”
“I suppose then I should hope you won’t tire of me,” William kept his head down, but raised his eyes. He watched Angelus survey the passing road. The horses clomped on. Angelus didn’t say another word.
