Part I:

"Sai?"

"Yes, Hikaru?"

"You sure you're a man?"

"...Hikaru..."

"Hmm?"

"How many times have I told you!  I HATE to be called 'feminine-looking'!!"

"Augh, calm down!  I just..."

"Just what!?"

"...I just thought, uh, our relationship might have been different."

"What do you mean?"

"Remember the girl I matched up today?  Waya said she's the prettiest among Insei but I thought that you're much prettier than she, actually."

"..."

"Or any girl I know, and that I might have well fell for you if you're a woman."

"..."

"Sai?"

"...Yes?"

"I wish I could touch you."

"...I wish the same, Hikaru."

Part II:

When Hikaru returned to professional matches after long absence, people noticed his disheartened atmosphere and rumored his possible break-up with unknown girlfriend.  Akira disregarded the buzz, but he, too, acknowledged the fact: Hikaru had changed.

Now, Akira found Hikaru solitarily looking up empty sky.  Akira could tell he was seeing someone there, still mourning the great loss.

Akira's chest clenched in pain.  Quietly, he walked to Hikaru's side and took one hand into his own.  Hikaru whirled in surprise, but said nothing and squeezed back.

The two stood there in silence, savoring the comforting touch of each other's hand.

Aw! I want to sit those first two down and give them an eye-opening education, even though I don't know the fandom. So cute! *g*

Haha, I too want to tell Hikaru "hey, your partner doesn't have to be a woman when you've fallen in love"^o^, but let's just say he's too immature to accommodate his own feeling.
(FYI, Sai is a ghost and thus they can't touch each other anyway...if he'd been corporeal, then things might have been... *g*)
