Disclaimer: RTD isn't Joss, even if he tries, and I'm no RTD. That does not make me Joss, however. It just makes me someone who isn't either of them.
Some guys had all the luck. He’d really meant to go sightseeing on the miserable gray planet “Jack” had shackled himself so nobly to, but his Vortex Manipulator had other plans. The technology had always been tetchy, even given the superior model he had secured. Considering how many times it had been tampered with within the last month or so, he really shouldn’t have been surprised when it sparked and sputtered and sent him to a completely different destination.
Stumbling from a wave of nausea that should not have been there, John found himself leaning against a bar. He scanned the area and determined himself to be in some sort of nightclub populated with a young crowd. There was a live band, fancy lights, a dance floor, and, of course, lots of young, fresh flesh. He picked up slices of conversation here and there and determined that he wasn’t so far off from the year he’d left, but had ended up somewhere in America, West Coast if his knowledge of regional accents was still good.
“I could get used to this,” He remarked to himself turning around and signaling to the barkeep. It wasn’t the barkeep that answered him; it was a man to his right: “Funny that. I was just thinkin’ the opposite.”
As a seasoned time-and-space-traveler, John wasn’t surprised by much. Out of all the trillions of intelligent bipeds out there, there was bound to be at least one person who was gifted with John’s delectable bone structure and other pleasant physical qualities. Without so much as blinking twice, the former Time Agent leered at his almost-double, “Bet I could make you change your mind.”
The man cocked an eyebrow, but soon laughed. “All right, mate.”
John leaned closer, patting his fried manipulator fondly. Some guys had all the luck.
