Title: He Had to Do It
Author: rabidtazwrites
Prompt: #216: Confusion
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: HarryxDraco unrequited
Rating: R
Word count: 300
Summary: He had to do it, feelings for Potter aside.
Contains spoilers for Half-Blood Prince.
Draco Malfoy had never felt such confusion in his life, his heart twisting in his chest as he tried to catch his breath.
Excitement raced through his veins, the skin on his arm scorched with a Dark Mark the scent of burning flesh lingering in his nose as he inhaled slowly finally managing to calm himself.
He was to kill Dumbledore, redeeming himself in his father’s eyes. He was not spineless, he was a Malfoy.
He was going to kill the greatest wizard of their age.
Terror flooded him, tears filling his eyes as his bottom lip quivered.
He couldn’t.
Harry Potter, the thought of the other boy stuck in his head, everything he had lost.
He wished against all hope that he could just hate him, feel some sort of animosity but he couldn’t especially knowing he was going to kill the only living family he had.
Pity for Potter?
Perhaps he was going soft, it was possible.
Draco had after all been coddled by his mother quite a bit, as his father had once said.
Lucius had known, had known that there was more than hatred lingering in his veins when it came to Potter.
There was lust.
His confusion mounted.
Draco had been chosen, it was his destiny, he had been handpicked for this job.
He couldn’t hurt Potter.
Weak...so weak, a disgrace his father’s voice echoed through his head as he looked at the floor.
Closing his eyes his whole world seemed to tilt before shifting back into focus and he took a deep breath, rising from his bed he looked in the mirror and spelled his hair into place as his mother’s voice rang through the house.
Feelings for Potter aside.
Dumbledore had to die.
No life was worth more than his after all.
