Title Watching You

“You haven’t disappeared today.”
“Don’t sound so disappointed.”
“I was.”
Two figures stand in the middle of the office, one opaque and hunched slightly, another transparent and standing proud. They look each other squarely in the eye.
“Been watching you.”
“So that was why I felt nauseous all day.”
“Oh! That was almost funny!”
The proud figure flickers for a second, then is still. He waits until the defeated figure looks back at him before stepping closer.
“S’not right, you bein’ cooped up like this. You’re dying here.”
“Careful. You sound as though you might actually care.”
“It stopped bein’ about you an’ me ages ago, and it can stay that way for all I care. It’s the world I’m speaking for. Pompous arse or not, you did something here. Something good. Seein’ as how I can’t be a part o’ that what with bein’ a ghost an’ all, you’re the next best thing the good guys’ve got. ”
The solid figure leans back against the corner of his desk, folding his hands in his lap. He looks out of the window at the setting sun. The vague figure disappears with a whoosh.
“I hate it when you do that.”
