Dear Hawkeye:

I am sorry I haven’t written lately, but Erin had a cold and then she started school. The gutters really needed cleaning and..

I told Peg about us, I really did. She didn’t handle it well. She wants us to go to a marriage counselor. And she wants to try to have another baby. She thinks that will fix things. Make me forget about you. She doesn’t understand that I can never forget about you.

Did I tell you that I am working the midnight shift at the Mill Valley Hospital ER? It is funny, their busiest nights are like our easiest days at the 4077.

Hawk, please believe me. I want to come to Maine and be with you. It is just, well things are harder to change than I thought. I can’t just stop being a husband and a father.

I miss you. And I love you.

BJ

Hawkeye suddenly crumpled the letter and threw it across the room.

After a few minutes, he walked over and picked it up.

He smoothed out the wrinkles and gently folded it.

He opened the desk drawer and place it on top of all the others.

I always liked Hawkeye and BJ together. :)

Great fic!

And a fantastic final line; the way it adds so much more about the situation, beyond the previous 186 words. And those 186 words set up that final line very well, too.
