Hawkeye jumped into the jeep and drove, as far and as fast away from the 4077th as he could.

Technically, he was now AWOL, but he didn’t care.

About a mile outside the camp, he jammed on the brakes and stopped in the middle of the road.

“Ah hell,” he said as he punched the steering wheel as hard as he could.

The sharp jolt of pain stopped his whirling thoughts.

He was in love with someone. Love, the real thing, not just the physical nurse of the week stuff.

No, truly and deeply in love.

But it was with….

Captain BJ Hunnicutt. His swamp mate…fellow surgeon... and married father of one.


Was that wrong? To love somebody?


Shit , Hawkeye said as he throttled the steering wheel.

According to his religion, his Catholic religion, he would be damned into hell if he pursued any further action on this thought.

Hawkeye reached across to the canteen he had tossed into the passenger seat and took a swig.

Maybe, just maybe he could sublimate this desire.

If only BJ hadn’t returned the kiss.

Hawkeye took another swig of Henry’s scotch, and jammed his foot on the accelerator.

He had made his decision.
