Gene shrugged. “Don’t know why I bother.” He got up from his seat with the aim of going to talk to Ray and Chris instead, but was stopped in his tracks by a hand clamping down on his wrist, tugging him back.

“No, stay. Just…”

“What is it now?”

“Cheer me up?”
