I blame this all on
darkhavens and
reremouse. Until this week's challenge I had managed to fend off the plot bunnies but they...they encouraged me to write a different pairing!! And this is the insanity that I've come up with.
Unrequited
Joxer was humming to himself as he followed along behind Xena and Gabrielle. They were on their way to Thrace to meet with Hercules and his friend Iolaus. Joxer was more than looking forward to it; he was nearly vibrating with excitement.
He had gotten over his crush on Gabrielle a long time ago, right after that magical scroll disaster. He even saw how the two women would be careless with their words or actions and hurt his feelings, Gabby more than Xena, but he still traveled with them in hopes of seeing the one being that he truly gave a damn about anymore.
In front of the others Ares always treated him with the same disdain as he did Xena and Gabby. But whenever he had the chance he would pray to Ares, give an offering at one of his temples, do something for the War God, and during those times, while Ares never appeared before him, Joxer felt a sense of acceptance and camaraderie.
He truly believed his honest devotion was being repaid. He had noticed in the past few months that he tripped a bit less, was just a tad more coordinated. He’d even managed to knock out two bandits when their small group was attacked two nights before and the shocked look on his two companions faces had him biting the inside of his cheek to keep the laughter inside.
What made it more enjoyable was the fact that he could tell it wasn’t just Ares waving his hand and making him a warrior. The past few times he’d gone to one of the God’s temples one of Ares’ priests had appeared and offered a fighting lesson in return for Joxer’s company. It was a gift, but one Joxer had to work at.
“Joxer! Come on! Quit straggling and try to keep up, we’re almost there!”
“Sure Gabby!! I’m coming!” Joxer shook himself out of his thoughts and picked up the pace. He really was looking forward to getting to Thrace. There was no way Ares would pass up a chance to annoy both his half-brother and his former warrior. Plus there was the whole war thing going on in the area.
Hanging out with the two heroes would mean he’d get to see the God or War. Ares may have a temper but he was one of the most handsome people Joxer had ever seen, mortal or god. He wondered if Ares was ever just Ares, and not War. If he even had a softer side or if he was like the huge sword he carried, strong but unbending.
Joxer wondered what it would feel like to have beard burns on the inside of his thighs.
He couldn’t help but sigh as he hurried to catch up to the others, his mismatched armor clanking as he ran. Why was it he always fell for people that were too good for him? Maybe he’d ask ‘Dite the next time he saw the Goddess. Unrequited love sucked.

Think of Xander but Joxer is more geeky, with worse clothes. Ares has sort of a Angelus personality, but with leather pants and vest. And bare arms. Long hair, and yum! LOL

Now, what should I call this fandom in the memories? Xena/Hercules? I have no clue as I don't get the shows here.
