"You always have an excuse."

"But, Cam, really, I do need to help Dad with -- " The look thundering on his husband's face hushes that excuse. Mitch tries again, "Claire needs me to -- " Cam folds his arms and increases the thunder of his furious look. "Lily has -- "

"Lily can miss dance class just this once. She's never seen our Christmas celebration." There's a reason for that, but Mitch knows he's beyond being able to explain his way out of attending this year without truly hurting Cam's feelings.

He doesn't want to hurt him. He doesn't want to see the damn clowns' Christmas routine, either, but he knew Cam was a clown when he married him. Mitch sighs, remembering Claire and Gloria both telling him how they have both tolerated things to support their husbands, no matter how much they hate it. He doesn't want to have Cam pouting at him all season throughout their first Christmas as a married couple.

He sighs again, lets his shoulders sink. "All right," he caves. "We'll go. Just this year."

"You don't have to look so happy about it," Cam retorts. "You know, Mitchell, sometimes, I think you hate my clown side, and it's a part of me -- "

Before Cam can fully start his declaration, Mitch steps up again, this time right up to his big, bulking, pouting husband, and takes his face in his hands. "Cam," he states, gazing directly into his eyes and making certain he's got his full attention, "I love every part of you." Then he kisses him deeply enough that any more retorts Cam might have had planned are silenced fully. He'd love to change the clown side of him, but it won't keep him from loving him ever.

Later that evening, Cameron, dressed in his full costume, draws back the thick, red curtain just enough that he can peer around its side. He finds Mitch and Lily easily enough, sitting in the front row where they're supposed to be, and his breath catches at the unexpected sight behind them. Lined behind his husband and child are his father-in-law, Gloria, Claire, Phil, and all three of their children. Phil and Luke are carrying on, laughing almost as hard and loud as his friends on stage, and although four of his family look like they'd rather be anywhere else (and he realizes that Mitch probably dragged them along so he wouldn't have to "suffer" by himself), Cam's heart still glows.

His gaze zones in on Mitch and Lily. Lily's clapping and laughing, and despite himself, Mitch's beautiful, red head is beaming joyously. Cam grins broadly, the warmth he felt when he first spotted his family tingling all the way down to his excitedly curling toes. He hears his cue, drops the curtain, and lets the play really begin. This one's going to be the play to remember for a lifetime, he knows, because his Mitch is finally in the season, truly loving him, and loving his act. For him, Cam lets it shine.

The End
